If you’re looking for an easy entry into the world of agile, Trello has one of the shortest learning curves and it’s one of the easiest to get up and running. The tool is free (or at least freemium!) and has to be considered one of the best free agile tools because it’s so intuitive and simple to use.

Being simple also means that it’s limited in features and functionality. Out of the box, Trello has task management and team collaboration, but it’s pretty limited.

For richer functionality you have to start paying for it. The Business class version gives you app integrations or “Power-Ups' which allow you to enable additional functionality such as GitHub, SalesForce, and Slack integrations; Gantt charts; timesheets; reporting; and analytics.

I evaluated and compared the most popular project management tools on the market, both for their reviews and user interface. Then I weighed factors that make software a good option for agile project management, such as the following ones.

User Interface (UI)

Is it clean and attractive? Does it have a mobile app UI optimized for Android and iOS devices? A clean user interface will impact the way you do your work as it directly affects navigation. Therefore, this tool should make good use of whitespace and distribute content appropriately.

Usability

To rank well in terms of usability, the software should be easy to learn, easy to integrate with other tools, and easy to use in real-time for quick collaboration. Does the tool have usability bonuses like a project wiki or drag-and-drop organization?

Integrations

Is it easy to connect with other tools? Does it integrate with agile-oriented integrations for your collaboration tool of choice (like Slack, Teamwork Chat, or Google Docs); continuous adaptation tools, like bug tracking (Zoho Bug Tracker, DebugMe); and customer satisfaction tools (Qualtrics Customer XM, Hively)?
