The headline from the Gartner press release reads:
Gartner Says 80 Percent of Today’s Project Management Tasks Will Be Eliminated by 2030 as Artificial Intelligence Takes Over
That’s a bold claim and something that would have a major impact on our jobs as project managers! So, Kelly and I got together to discuss the study and talk about how we think artificial intelligence will impact that project manager’s role in the coming decade.
Tune in to get our take on important questions, such as:
- What counts as a project manager task?
- What parts of the PM job could be easily done by software—and what parts could not?
- What parts of your job would you prefer that AI take over?

What’s Next? Grow Your Soft Skills
As we dug into the topic of AI taking over our jobs, the importance of soft skills as some of the most critical project manager skills came up again and again.
Overall, we concluded that software programs can (and should!) take over many of the repetitive and technical aspects of our jobs as project managers, and there’s lots of PM software out there that are already doing this. In turn, this means that our contribution as project communicators, motivators, facilitators, and negotiators—the soft skills—is growing insignificance.
This is why we focus on developing resources that help you grow your soft skills as well as the technical skills associated with the PM role. Here’s a few that I recommend you start with:
